A couple of weeks ago I was really struggling with the third book in the Gladwynn Grant Mystery series. I was feeling weepy, confused, lost, and also disappointed that things weren’t coming together as quickly as I would like. I was disappointed because I wanted this book out before the end of the year.
I thought I could do it. I thought I could pull it out. It turns out, I can’t. Not if I want it to be at least a bit readable. My husband calmed me down (handed me some chocolate) and reminded me that I could publish this book whenever I wanted to (since I’m an independent author) and suggested I take my time and put the book out later than I planned.
I could push it and get it done but then there is the time I need for my developmental editor (*cough* husband *cough*) to read it, for me to fix any plot holes, and also for me to read over it again and decide I hate it all and have to start over again.
All of this is why why Gladwynn is coming back in 2025 now, instead of 2024. I don’t have a firm release date just yet, but I’ll keep you updated.
I do, however, have a title – Gladwynn Grant Shakes the Family Tree – and I have a cover reveal for you today.
Book description:
Working as a small-town newspaper reporter and trying to keep up with her grandmother, Lucinda, has kept Gladwynn Grant busy, but, otherwise, life has been quiet.
Everything changes, though, when her older, aloof sister, Sheena, shows up unannounced at the front door.
As if that isn’t enough to deal with, she finds one of her interview subjects dead.
Once again, she’ll have to deal with State Police Detective Tanner Kinney and his stiff-upper-lip-attitude while doing her best to avoid Pastor Luke Callahan who she accused of murder the year before.
When it looks like Sheena is somehow mixed up with a suspect in the murder, Gladwynn’s stress levels rise to an all time high.
Will Gladwynn be able to help solve the murder and find out why her sister has shown up after not visiting for the last six years? And who wrote a stack of love letters stashed in a storage area under her grandmother’s stairs?
Join Gladwynn, Lucinda, Tanner, and Luke Callahan for another modern mystery with a vintage feel.
Until the new book is out, you can find book one (Gladwynn Grant Gets Her Footing) and book two (Gladwynn Grant Takes Center Stage) if you haven’t read them yet and give them a read - even though you won't need to read book three in order.
Both books are currently on Kindle Unlimited.

Now, I would love if some of you could recommend your favorite clean/Christian Fiction reads this year. I am looking for something to read in late November, early December but it does not need to be a Christmas-themed book.
Leave your recommendations in my comment sections, if you can, but if there is some reason commenting is not working, email me at lisahoweler@gmail.com
Giveaway
I love to offer giveaways so this month I am offering a giveaway for a paperback copy of the first book in my cozy mystery series – Gladwynn Grant Gets Her Footing. I have paperbacks with the original cover because Amazon sent me copies with the wrong cover for some reason. The book inside is the same, though. They will be autographed, but I’m not sure what my autograph is really worth.
All you need to do to enter is let me know in the comments what two of your favorite books or authors are. I’ll pick a random winter before my November newsletter comes out and announce it on my Substack as well as notify the winner by email.
This month’s verse:
If you are not an insider subscriber to my site, you can sign up for $2 a month or $12 a year. This will make sure you get the first looks at new covers, new books, sneak peeks, special author interviews, special giveaways, discounts, access to my A Good Book and A Cup of Tea Discord book club, and much more.
But you can also just subscribe for free because I’ll still be sharing a lot outside the paywall.
I just finished The Blue Castle, and you were right, I loved it! Anything by LM Montgomery is a treat. When I need a total break from current times tho, I pick out an old fashion Grace Livingston Hill fiction. I may have to skim over some of her super wordy dialogue, but it's worth it just to step back into another era, that's filled with hope and integrity.
A twist on your entry premise - I went to the Touchstone Magazine Conference back in September. There were a number of authors among among the speakers & attendees, but mostly non-fiction. I got to chat with Rod Dreher for the second year in a row, and had a nice conversation with Vesper Stamper. (Now I need to read the book of hers I bought.) I'm currently reading through Rod's book "The Benedict Option" as part of a book group while waiting for his new book - "Living in Wonder" - to arrive. Life has been crazy as of late, & I hope to catch up with blogging & the like when I can.
