When the kids aren't here, it's amazing how quiet I keep the place. Usually, though, there's lots of noise, and at some point, it's just too much. I remember spending summer evenings reading at my grandma's house on the farm out in Iowa, me, my mom, my grandma, and probably also my sister, though she probably did more finding other amusements. Those images come back to me over and over, and at some point, it would be nice to have the kids experience that as well, though it's going to take a lot of work - we have so much stuff!
If you've never come across it, Patrice Lewis' "Rural Revolution" blog is fantastic - http://www.rural-revolution.com/ . She's out in northern Idaho and a writer as well, a lot of magazine writing, but she got picked up by a publisher for Amish romances now. (She also takes a lot of pictures!)
