Hello! Good morning. Good evening. Whatever time it is when you are reading this.
Welcome to my new corner of the internet for my author, book, and writing stuff. If you have not been here before – well – neither have I. This is my first official newsletter on Substack and I am excited to launch it.
If you are not familiar with me, I am a writer of contemporary and sometimes historical Christian fiction. I am from Pennsylvania and live with my husband of 20 years, my two children (a teenager and an 8-year-old), two cats, and a very sweet dog. More than being a writer, I am a mom and I homeschool both of my children.
This online is where I’ll be updating readers about what’s coming up or even what’s been. I’ll probably only update once a month so please do not be afraid that I will overrun your inbox with details of my rather dull life. *wink*
Since this is an introductory post it will be rather tedious but in the future, I hope to provide more interesting information. I might even include some fiction excerpts as I work on them or a free novella or two.
Right now, I thought I’d share with you some writing updates.
First, if you don’t know already, Shores of Mercy, the fourth book in the Spencer Valley Chronicles, came out January 31. It is now available to read via Amazon on ebook, in paperback, and on Kindle Unlimited.
You can find a way to read it HERE.
You can also read the three previous books, The Farmer’s Daughter, Harvesting Hope, and Beauty From Ashes via Amazon in the same formats. There is also a Christmas novella that I kicked out over Christmas, Beyond the Season, available on Amazon.
Now that book four is out, you may be wondering what the future of the Spencer Valley Chronicles is. I can tell you I have plans for one more book for the series, which will focus on Alex Stone and his relationship with his family, Molly, and the Tanners. I have tentative plans for a prequel about Franny and Ned Tanner, Molly and Jason’s grandparents. Stay tuned for those books because I do not have a release date for either yet.
As for my future writing projects, this year I will be working on at least two projects, possibly three. The first project is a personal passion project. It is a Biblical fiction book called Fully Alive and will focus on the life of Jairus’ daughter. If you are not familiar with this story, this is when Jesus raises a 12-year old girl from the dead. The Chosen recently showcased this story in Season 3, episode five. If you have not seen it, you can find it HERE and I highly recommend it. Grab a box of tissues.
The second project won’t release until August of 2024. I am working on a book called Cassie that will be part of a multi-author project. Each of the books of the project will release once a month in 2024 and will follow the story of women who have somehow been influenced by a cookbook that has been passed down from generation to generation. This is my first multi-author project and I am so excited to be a part of it. I can’t wait to tell you more about it as we get closer to the release date for the first book in the series. Stay tuned for that as well.
I also have a couple of other books in the works, either started writing or started brainstorming. They will all be stand-alone books at this point, but I do have the tiny inklings of an idea for a future series.
I am still blogging at www.lisahoweler.com, which is where I share random thoughts, book reviews, ramblings about life, and photography, chats about homeschooling, etc. I post there 2-3 times a week, sometimes more if I get into a groove. That doesn’t happen very often.
You can also catch up with me on social media on Instagram and Facebook.
So that is my update for this month. We are cold here in Pennsylvania as I write this but it looks like temperatures may rise some next week. How is the weather where you are? I hope it is a little warmer than here, but if it isn’t, I hope you at least have some nice views like we do.
Beautiful photo and congrats on all your projects and books, that is so cool.
I'm so excited to read Shores of Mercy! 💙
